Overview:

The Power Exhaust and Particle Control (PEPC) group of the Fusion Energy Division seeks applicants to perform boundary plasma modeling using the SOLPS-ITER transport code. The PEPC group carries out experimental and simulation work to develop power exhaust and particle control solutions and the accompanying physics basis for a fusion reactor. The group performs boundary plasma modeling for a number of current and planned fusion reactor facilities worldwide. More information about our group can be found at:

Major Duties/
Responsibilities:

  • Perform boundary plasma simulations using the SOLPS-ITER code constrained by experimental data and make predictions for future experiments.
  • Create high impact research results to present and report in peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences.
  • Work closely with teams of diagnosticians, theorists, applied mathematicians, and experimental plasma physicists.
  • Perform interpretive and predictive modeling coupling to pedestal/core and plasma-material interaction codes.
  • Maintain commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of ORNL values and ethics.

Minimum
Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Plasma Physics, Math, Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Candidate should have at least two years of postgraduate technical experience in a research environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems for research and development projects with limited oversight.

Preferred
Qualifications:

  • Experience in machine learning, development of reduced models, and control systems.
  • Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, Fortran, C+
    and other science relevant languages.
  • Demonstrated ability to work individually and/or as part of a team, including participation at remote facilities, and contribute based on knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills supporting regular interactions with fellow research staff, peer reviewers, research sponsors, and preparing reports and proposals.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
